Milky Way Transformer Supplies Tin Bath Dry-Type Transformers for Xinyi Glass Zhangjiagang Float Glass Technical Renovation Project

During the technical renovation of the float glass production lines at Xinyi Glass’ Zhangjiagang base, Milky Way Transformer Co., Ltd. (formerly Wansheng Transformer) provided tin bath dry-type transformers for the project’s two float glass production lines. The relevant equipment was delivered in batches in 2020 to meet the electric heating demand of the glass forming process, supporting the power supply infrastructure of the base’s production line upgrade.

Xinyi Glass Zhangjiagang Industrial Park is located in Jinfeng Town, Zhangjiagang, Jiangsu Province, and serves as Xinyi Glass’ key glass manufacturing base in Jiangsu. Established in 2018, the park covers an area of approximately 280,000 square meters. According to the owner’s official website, it mainly produces high-quality float glass and energy-efficient architectural glass, forming a product portfolio that covers both glass substrates and architectural glass applications.

This technical renovation project was implemented by Xinyi Glass (Jiangsu) Co., Ltd., covering two high-quality float glass production lines with daily melting capacities of 580 tons and 900 tons respectively, along with supporting deep processing facilities. According to the public project review issued by the Suzhou Municipal Bureau of Industry and Information Technology, the project is based on the adjustment of existing production lines: three original float glass lines were phased out, and two new lines were built with second-generation float glass technology, supported by deep processing facilities. The project integrates float glass substrate production and downstream processing to advance the upgrading of the base’s production facilities.

The construction of the Zhangjiagang base also includes an extension into downstream energy-saving glass products. In March 2020, Xinyi Glass announced a capital increase plan for its Jiangsu industrial base, proposing to build a high-end energy-saving glass deep processing project in Zhangjiagang Metallurgical Industrial Park to expand product lines including low-emissivity (Low-E) glass, insulating glass and laminated glass. The integration of float glass production and deep processing is the base’s development direction for optimizing product structure and targeting downstream markets such as construction.

For glass manufacturing projects of this scale, substrate production is the foundation of all downstream processing. Technical renovation of glass production lines involves not only process links such as melting and forming, but also coordinated adaptation of corresponding electrical equipment to the production line system. Among them, the tin bath plays a critical role in the float glass forming process, and its electric heating system requires matching power supply equipment to support precise process temperature control.

Milky Way Transformer’s support for this project focused on the tin bath electric heating section of the float production lines. The tin bath dry-type transformers supplied by the company are designed to match relevant heating loads, connecting the production line power supply with the electric heating system. In line with the construction schedule of the two production lines, the company organized equipment delivery in batches, and all units were delivered to the Zhangjiagang base and completed acceptance.

The coordinated implementation of the two production lines under a single project reflects the requirements of glass technical renovation projects for equipment adaptation and delivery coordination. For the electric heating applications of specific production lines, dedicated transformers must be tailored to load requirements, installation conditions and system interfaces to ensure that equipment delivery aligns seamlessly with on-site construction progress.
